Alior Bank's central communication platform for BIK, ZBP, KRD, and ERIF databases — built using the Meltemee low-code platform and ready for further development by the Bank's team.
Client
Alior Bank S.A. — a universal bank providing services to both individual and business customers, with a significant portfolio of installment loans granted at partner retail points of sale and through the bank's own channels. The nature of this business requires instant, secure, and fully automated credit decisions. Every such decision must be based on up-to-date data from multiple external credit, anti-fraud, and identity information sources.
Contractor
yarrl S.A. designs, implements, and integrates systems supporting banks, as well as the commercial and public sectors. Their experience in software development, combined with their knowledge and technological resources, allows yarrl to ensure high-quality service, as well as the development of existing products and the creation of new ones, including their proprietary low-code platform, Meltemee. yarrl S.A. has extensive experience in creating software necessary for providing services in the corporate market, along with the organizational and technical capacity to maintain the highest standards for the solutions delivered.
Challenge
Every bank in Poland communicates with over a dozen external registers and databases: the Credit Information Bureau (BIK), databases provided by the Polish Bank Association (ZBP), economic information bureaus, and state registers. Each of these providers has its own API, its own version update schedule, and its own requirements for both online communication and batch data transmission in accordance with statutory obligations.
In a traditional integration model, every domain system in the bank — credit processing, AML (anti-money laundering), onboarding, anti-fraud — must handle these interfaces independently. The result: duplication of integration code, maintenance costs that grow linearly with the number of interfaces, and the risk that a version change on the provider's side (e.g., the introduction of a new BIK KI 4.0 communication interface) forces coordinated work across multiple systems simultaneously. In the installment loan segment, there is an additional dimension: strict response time requirements. A credit decision that is to be made automatically must, in a single pass, provide a risk assessment, collect data from multiple external sources, validate it, and pass it to the scoring engine — all within a matter of seconds.
Alior Bank needed an architecture that ensures the required performance while, thanks to the use of Meltemee low-code technology, leaving the Bank with full control over the development of the solution.
Solution
In cooperation with Alior Bank, yarrl S.A. implemented Meltemee Integration HUB — the central element of the Bank's communication architecture with external information databases. The HUB covers the full range of integrations required by the Bank:
- BIK — BIK KI 4.0 (Individual Client), BIK P (Entrepreneur), PAF KI and PAF KB (Anti-Fraud Platforms);
- databases provided by the Polish Bank Association (ZBP) — BR (Banking Register), DZ (Restricted Documents), PESEL, RDO (Identity Card Register);
- economic information bureaus — KRD and ERIF;
- data feeds — cyclical data transmission to selected databases in accordance with statutory requirements.
For Alior Bank's domain systems — credit processes, AML, onboarding, and anti-fraud — the HUB serves as the central integration point. Version updates from BIK, ZBP, or economic information bureaus are handled within the HUB, without requiring changes to source systems.
The solution's architecture allows for easy expansion with additional communication connectors without affecting existing mechanisms. The connectors support both online queries (single, transactional — e.g., in installment processes), bulk offline queries (asynchronous database polling based on files), as well as the loading of batch responses (large sets of reports), which reduces costs and shortens response times.
Data feeds — which populate external databases with account data in accordance with statutory requirements — are handled by separate services with their own validation and scheduling policies, independent of the query mechanism.
This is complemented by report cache which limits the number of repeat requests to providers and provides a full traffic history required for auditing.
The solution has been supplemented with an application providing an advanced operator panel with access to all queries and reports from various external databases, along with their visualization in a format readable for risk analysts, the ability to trigger requests, and the management of the entire cycle of preparing and sending data batches. Thanks to the use of the Meltemee platform, the application can be developed and adapted to new requirements by the Bank's team.
Benefits
- Instant, automated credit decisioning for installment processes — powered by data from BIK, ZBP, and credit bureaus in a single pass.
- Centralization of communication with external registers at a single, auditable point in the architecture.
- Reduced time-to-market for new interface versions from providers (e.g., BIK KI 4.0)
- Stable API for core systems — changes in the communication layer with database providers do not require work in the Bank's source systems.
- Regulatory compliance in the area of mandatory data exchange — complete coverage of required interfaces and data batches.
- In-house development readiness — the solution's architecture and the use of the Meltemee low-code environment provide the Bank with the ability to evolve the solution at the pace of its own business and regulatory changes.
Business owner testimonial
"In installment lending, every second counts—and an automated decision must query BIK, ZBP databases, and credit bureaus in that time. The Meltemee Integration HUB has streamlined and unified communication with these environments, allowing us to handle subsequent provider updates centrally rather than through individual projects across multiple systems. Choosing Meltemee's low-code technology gave us the confidence that the solution can be further developed by the Alior Bank team as well."
Adam Knochowski, Technology and Business Development Manager at Alior Bank.
Meltemee for integration in regulated sectors
In areas where the pace of change is dictated not by business needs, but by external regulatory schedules and strict operational response time requirements, traditional integration projects become a bottleneck. The Meltemee Integration HUB proves that the right architecture can simultaneously ensure compliance, security, and the speed of adaptation when communicating with external registries.
